Kids Need Art
I know how busy classroom teachers are. I taught for 18 years. I also know that, with the current emphasis on testing, there is little time for art. This is sad because children love art and it helps them in many ways. •Through interacting with visual art, young people improve such vital thinking skills as comparison, contrast, and the difference between fact and opinion. •They learn practical applications of scientific principles. Visual artists use their knowledge of such fields as geology, anatomy, botany, and chemistry every day. •Since works of art have been treasured around the world for thousands of years, visual arts give children a window into other times and places. •Most of all, the arts show children that each person has something beautiful, important, and unique to contribute to the world.
